26 Apr

I am so sorry it has been quite a while since I have posted.  Unfortunately, someone thought it would be cool to hack my blog and infect it with all sorts of nasties.  After much sifting, deleting and reinstalling bits and pieces, I am pleased to say that my digital home has been given a clean bill of health from Google :D

For all those who are lucky enough to be in Hobart this coming weekend, I will be having a stall at The Valley Markets.  Taking place at the Lenah Valley Community Hall from 10am – 2pm, the markets showcase delightful handcrafted goodies from local artists and crafters, with something for everyone.

For more information on the markets, you can VISIT their blog feed, or “Like” them on Facebook.

Nyan Cat Perler / Pixel Canvas

27 Mar

I love Nyan Cat.  He is just so cute and random, and let’s face it – who doesn’t love rainbows and pop tarts?  Anyway, I thought this piece would brighten up my crafty room, or “The Duck Cave” as I like to call it.  He has been beaded with Perler Beads and mounted on a painted canvas, simple yet effective!

Have no idea what Nyan Cat is?  Here is the video meme to brighten your day!  And if you want your own Nyan Cat Canvas, just leave me a comment or inbox me on Facebook :D

I Love You More Than Zombies Love Brains

20 Mar

I feel like I have been neglecting my blog.  It is not that I don’t have the intentions to update, it is just between looking after Link, working a couple of days a week and of course crafting, I just seem to forget – or rather I remember / have inspiration when I am no where near a computer.  I do so ever much want to change this!  With the release of the iPad 3 last week, I thought it would be the perfect opportunity to get myself an iPad 2 while they were cheap – yippie!  So now I don’t have the excuse of not being near a computer when inspiration strikes (which at the moment, is on the bus to work).

I have been working on so much lately, from last minute Cosplay costumes to finally finishing my Valentines Day present for Chicken.  I had already purchased him something (Arkham Horror – a role playing board game based on the works of H. P. Lovecraft) and had wanted to make up a little something extra.  Originally I was going to make a little zombie feltie, but after browsing Etsy to put together my Bloody Valentine Treasury, one idea snowballed into a few others and I decided to make in a cross stitch sampler that reads: “I Love You More Than Zombies Love Brains.”  I designed the pattern myself using KG Chart and have fashioned the lettering based on charts found online: Heavy Metal Cross Stitch Alphabet and Lower Case Letter Chart (I did make some changes to the Heavy Metal Cross Stitch Alphabet charts by swapping some of the embellishments around on the letters).  The tombstone boarders and the brain have be designed by myself.

It looks a little funny in the frame at the moment as the aida is an ecru colour while the frame is white, but I hope to get some gold leaf at some stage to antique the frame.  The main thing though, is that Chicken loved it, even if it was a little bit late.

Frank & Nikki Betta Milk Dolls and the Betta Milk Street Party

06 Mar

My Autographed Poster from Frank & Nikki (click to enlarge)

Quite some time ago I stumbled upon the blog, Crafty is Cool by Allison Hofman.  Her work is not only amazing, but she has an obsession for crocheting “dolls of famous people and then giving them to said famous people” – including a Conan O’Brien Doll which went viral and was blogged about by everyone from Perez Hilton to Entertainment Weekly

Anyways, inspired by her Celebrity work, I have decided to do the same – and what better place to start than with Tasmanian local legends, Frank and Nikki of the Betta Milk Protection Squad.  The Tasmanian Milk company started the documentary style adds several years ago, featuring Frank and Nikki (and Killer the Cat) as member of The Betta Milk Protection Squad, ensuring that our Tasmanian milk was safe from the clutches of the “Mainlanders” and our stores free from “Generic Cream”.  The adds went on the win Australian Marketing Institute Awards two years running, while the milk has been awarded Australia’s Best Milk by the Dairy Industry Association of Australia. To celebrate the occasion, a Betta Milk Street Party was held in Oatlands with an advertisement to be filmed on the day.

While I had fun creating the pattern for my Captain Jack Sparrow Doll, he did take a long time to make as he had so many parts.  So this time around, I wanted something that was a little more All-In-One.  The legs, body and head are all one piece rather than several, with the arms being the only other major parts to attach.  Because I was making up and writing the pattern as I went, I made a few mistakes on Nikki (the second of the dolls) as I had forgotten to cross out some adjustments that I had made, but over all I was very happy with the results.

I felt like such a big kid giving the dolls to them, I just couldn’t stop smiling!  The best thing though, was that they seemed to love them as well :D   While I don’t care too much if I myself is on the add, I am really hoping that the dolls make it on there (although it was kinda fun to have all these cameras filming and snapping away).  I guess I will find out in two weeks time when it goes to air!

Completed Black & Multi-Coloured Granny Rug

02 Feb

After several months of a little bit here and a little bit there, I have FINALLY finished my Black & Multi-Coloured Granny Rug.   I would have loved it to have been even bigger, but I got the wool on special and haven’t been able to get anymore.  I had to crochet into every second stitch with the multi-coloured wool to have enough for the edging, but I am still happy with the result.  The photos aren’t the best, but here she is :D

My FIRST Yarn Bomb

15 Jan

I FINALLY did my first yarn bomb last night after a few drinks at our house warming party.  I had started a giant granny square rug quite some time ago when I was first learning to crochet, but I mucked up my tension rather badly.  The result – something a little too warped to continue with.  Having tucked it away, I thought it would make the perfect piece for my first urban, woolly adventure.  I didn’t stray too far from home and laced it to a telegraph pole at the intersection of Hanlon Street and Spring Street in Claremont (Tasmania, Australia).
